Travelers are always drawn to certain city neighborhoods. Khaosan Road has been welcoming international visitors to Bangkok ever since it began its gradual transformation into a backpackers’ haunt. Now, times have changed and Khao San can now be called a cosmopolitan tourist district today. Surprisingly, despite Khaosan’s travel cred among international visitors to Bangkok it was only recently that the very first truly international hotel in Khao San opened its doors.
Originally a rice market, the majority of Khaosan’s early tourist accommodation was simple. Old shop houses became inexpensive and basic guesthouses. Most rooms offered nothing more than a mattress on the floor with shared bathroom facilities. As demand grew, a few purpose-built hotels sprung up. The area now stretched from Khaosan Road itself to the neighbouring roads of Soi Rambuttri and Phra Athit.
One of the first hotels in Bangkok to target a more up-market clientele was the Viengtai Hotel on Soi Rambuttri. A true pioneer in the area, it opened its doors in the 1950s to serve the diplomats and office workers visiting the nearby UN offices. To keep the legend alive in the modern day, the Viengtai Hotel was purchased by the AccorHotels Group and reopened after an extensive renovation as ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai. A gem in the street, it’s also proudly the first truly international hotel in Khao San.
ibis Styles is a brand that combines value for money with an eye for design. With its trendy and colourful décor, ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai offers three room sizes and configurations aimed at hip travelers and families. The on-site facilities include an eye-catching, 28 meters long rainbow swimming pool that is the focal point of the hotel. Lively Streats Bar hosts events and live music, while Streats Cafe serves a mixture of Thai and Western dishes and beverages. For those with a sweet tooth, the on-site Streats Bakery is an unmissable treat.
As the first international hotel in Khao San, ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai, the best ibis Bangkok hotel, certainly does not disappoint.
